a brief about the earthquake and its impacts on co-ops

The 8.0-magnitude earthquake on May 12 was the worst one in the past three decades in China. Sichuan, a southwest province in China, was directly hit and some neighboring provinces, such as Shaanxi, Gansu, Yunnan and Chongqing, were affected. The earthquake also caused severe damages to numerous supply and marketing co-ops in these provinces. According to the incomplete statistics of All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, by the noon of May 19, 10 co-op employees killed and 449 injured. The total loss in assets amounted to 1305 million Yuan, mostly in offices, factory buildings and warehouses. Supply and marketing co-ops in Sichuan totally lost 1194 million Yuan, Shaanxi 80 million Yuan, and Gansu 31 million Yuan. The total loss in assets and casualty could increase as some co-ops in the stricken areas are yet to report their losses.

We will greatly appreciate it if any organizations or individuals in the world would like to help. Donations, preferably money, are welcomed. Donations could be made through All china Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives or China Red Cross Society, kindly indicating the intended recipients.
