On August 18, 2006, the 7th Meeting of the ICA Regional Assembly for Asia-Pacific in Colombo unanimously approved the proposal by the Standing Committee that Mr. LI Chunsheng, Vice President of All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives replace Mr. MU Li as the President of ICA-Asia and Pacific. By the rules, the Regional Assembly will also nominate Mr. LI Chunsheng as ICA Vice President for Asia & Pacific for ratification by the next ICA General Assembly.
Upon the approval of Regional Assembly, Mr. LI Chunsheng commented:
“I am honored to take the office of the President of International Cooperative Alliance - Asia Pacific. I thank Mr. MU Li my predecessor for his marvelous leadership in the past years and other cooperators for their tireless efforts to make cooperative movement this successful in Asia-Pacific. Still, cooperatives around the world are faced with a range of challenges and issues, which we must confront rather than pass on to future generations. Being trusted and supported by great friends and colleagues within our region and in the whole ICA world, I solemnly pledge to dedicate myself to the prosperity and success of cooperative movement in Asia-Pacific Region and ICA Global.”
Biography of Mr. LI Chunsheng:
Mr. Li Chunsheng is the President of ICA Asia-Pacific and the Vice President of All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Co-operatives (ACFSMC) with a Doctor degree in Botany. During his long period of service, he worked with Helihe farm in Heilongjiang Province, Ministry of Forestry, and the State Council in China. During his service in the State Council, he was deeply engaged in strategic planning and policy-making for rural areas and made enormous contribution to the cooperative development in China.
